When To Visit
Though the park remains open from mid October to mid June, the best time to visit it is November- January as the weather is pleasant and jungle excursions become a lot more fun and enjoyable.
Entry To The Park
In order to access the park permission needs to be taken from the office of Assistant Conservator of Forest, National Park, Jashipur or from the Range Officer, Pithabata at Pithabata. Check Gate to visit the reserve.
The tourists can explore the reserve from 0600 to 1200 hours in the day. This time is extended by two hours for the reservation holders and is 0600 to 1400 hours.
Flora and Fauna
The wildlife at the Park is one of its best attractions. Simlipal National Park is home to tigers, leopard, elephants, bison, sambar, porcupine, pangolin, flying-squirrel, hill myna, hornbill and pythons. This biosphere can be considered to be the best place for nature lovers as it offers nonpareil beauty along with an excellent opportunity of observing the nature and its wonders closely.
The flora is constituted with numerable plant species that include 1,000 species of flowering plants, 94 are orchids. Some of these species are at display at Gurgia.
To add to the charming beauty there are number of waterfalls that mark an unsurpassable landscape, etching a permanent memories of the visitors. Joranda Waterfall is one of the prominent features of the park.
A Word Of Caution
Before visiting Simlipal Jungles, the tourists are advised to take an anti-malarial drug.
History and Culture Related To Park
Spreading over an 845 sq km core area, Simlipal is a undeniably a treasure.
In the bygone days, this reserve was the hunting ground of the Mayurbhanj Maharajas. Due to excessive hunting and negligence, the reserve lost many of its species. It was in the year 1957 that a small area of it was declared a sanctuary.
The region is also home to a number of tribal groups who are known for their deep rooted traditions and culture. Even today, the tribes follow their old age customs and traditions, bringing a classical touch to the environment of Simlipal.
