The Evolution Of Simlipal As Tiger Reserve

Simlipal Tiger Reserve has been gifted with magnanimous scenic beauty. The hilly terrain exotic plant and animal species and serene lap of nature together put Simlipal in the list of most beautiful locations of Odisha. Presently, Simlipal accounts for a number of attractions like juvenile waterfalls, beautiful orchids, dense woods, and wildlife that includes tigers, leopards, elephants & Gauria. The ecosystem is mainly composed of Sal Trees and thick vegetation that nurtures exotic flora and fauna.

This stunning biosphere holds an interesting past and till date owns a special bond with its tribal culture.

In the gone era, Simlipal was originally a hunting ground for royals and before it was declared as Tiger Reserve, it was known for being the Elephant Reserve. It was 1956, that it was declared as Tiger Reserve.

The Mugger Crocodile Scheme was started in 1979 at Ramtirath, Jashipur and was campaigned under Project Tiger. The region was declared as a wildlife sanctuary in 1979 by Government of Odisha and in 1994 was declared as Bioshphere reserve.  UNESCO too adored the site with the tag of biosphere in 2009. However, due to the presence of tribal population, Simlipal is still to enjoy the full stature of biosphere; but then its tribal origin is what makes Simlipal more unique and special.  It is the place where one can learn and learn and enjoy the life and culture of the tribal society of Orissa.
